The grading breakdown for seventh grade science is as follows:
Assignments 50% A variety of assignments that will challenge student content knowledge and 21st Century Skills.
Tests and quizzes 10% Lunch time make-ups may be available.
Nursery logs 10% Must be turned in on time and complete. No makeups are available. Students absent on nursery day will be excused from the nursery log.
Reading and Review 10% A variety of assignments such as chapter reviews from the text book or vocabulary practice.
Class Participation 10% Students will be assessed on their ability to be on task, respect others and participate in group or class discussion.
Trimester final 5% Students will have the opportunity to show their understanding of the science covered each trimester and how material connects from one topic to the next.
Trimester reflection 5% Students will right a reflection on a science activity each trimester. The students will give me feedback on why they chose this activity and whether they consider the activity a good learning tool.
If homework is not submitted, I will generally assign to students to the HIP program to ensure there is some follow through to having the assignment completed and turned in. Where appropriate, I give students the opportunity to redo work to improve grades. I do not assign "extra credit" to make up for otherwise missing assignments or poor quality work. I do not penalize on late assignments, however there will be definite cutoff dates where late or improved assignments will no longer be accepted. Towards the end of the year, some categories of work will not be accepted late. Notification of these dates will be posted on the "Homework" page and/or emailed via the Parent Portal however, the student planner should have all homework and due dates recorded in it.
Online tools are used for students that may be absent or for parents and students to cross reference the planner.
